Day Five

5Day five and I’m one fifth of the way through! I’ve had a much better writing day today and I’m hoping this continues.

I’m reminded that stories come at their own pace at their own time, and rushing it isn’t always going to help the characters along. What does help is when you truly give the characters a voice, step back, and allow them to use it.

The characters we write are just like anyone else. They deserve our respect and willingness to listen. After all, if they’re going to speak, they need to be heard. If we, as writers, won’t take the time to listen to our characters, then why should anyone else? The simple answer is, they won’t. So that is my little lesson for the day.

I hope you all have a lovely day, night, or whatever it is where you are. Love to all, and happy writing! πŸ™‚

  1. I made it to 10,000 as well. I totally agree with you here, its amazing how the characters can create a story that you hadn’t originally intended. But they have just as much of a right to be heard πŸ™‚

    1. That is fantastic!! And that’s even with a late start. You rock! πŸ™‚ I love getting to know my characters along the way. It’s so exciting. And all done in the privacy of my own home.

      1. I’ve written fanfiction before, but that was always within the context of an already established world. My only other creative writing was short stories. Its my first time doing NaNo and my first time writing such a long story. I’m really enjoying it so far πŸ™‚

      2. I’m so glad. πŸ™‚ I’m a little over 15,000 right now. I wanted to be a few thousand ahead, but it’s been a busy weekend and I haven’t done as much as I would like. I still have some time tonight though! πŸ™‚ I’m really excited about these characters and the story, and just overall really enjoying the process of watching it all unfold. How’s yours going?

      3. Mine is going fairly well so far. I’m a day or so ahead of the daily goal, so I’m happy with that. I didn’t get to write as much this weekend as I was hoping, but I should have some spare time this evening to get ahead. I’ve started to slow down a little bit, but I’m still really excited to explore the story and see what my characters do. Its amazing how attached I am to them already haha.

      4. That’s fantastic! I’ve had a really slow writing day today… It happens sometimes. I hope you were able to get the time with your character that you needed. It’s so fun getting to know them! πŸ™‚

      5. Today was a bit of a slow day too, mostly working out some details and background. But I’m excited about tomorrow’s session, it should be a lot more exciting, yay!

      6. Details and background can be so important! I really need to find a time to sit down and do some of that. Sometimes characters take on a life of their own and our original plans don’t work as we thought they would. haha

      7. I’ve noticed that too. I had one idea in place for the direction of my story, but that’s not what my main character wanted to do, so its changed haha πŸ™‚
