Incorporating Creativity

I’ve recently started drawing/sketching and dabbling in painting. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but any time I tried I felt like I wasn’t any good at it. I’m learning to stop judging myself so harshly and to let go of some of my perfectionism. And you know what? I’m actually really enjoying it! I can get lost in something I’m working on, and it feels amazing.

Music also helps me get into a creative mood. When I was growing up there was usually music of some kind floating through our home. I had no idea what an impact it has on the atmosphere and my ability to feel comfortable and loosen up. I’m starting to integrate that more too.

I really want to have a creative environment, I just don’t always know how to get there. But the above are a few steps that I’m taking to make it part of my everyday life.

Is creativity a regular part of your day? What things do you find help set that creative atmosphere in your home? I’d love to hear your experience. 🙂

  1. I work with words. To be a good writer, one first has to be a good reader. So I read a lot every day. Music is good for relaxing. I go hot and cold with piano and with guitar. It’s about time for me to pick up the guitar again. One summer, many years ago, I took up watercolor painting. It was fun while it lasted, but definitely not the door to a new career. J.

  2. Music is definitely something I use all the time, for both creative inspiration and motivation for cleaning/daily tasks. I have so many hobbies that I want to pick up again, currently I’ve re-started my Japanese language study as I hope to visit in the future. I’d like to start sketching again. So happy you’re enjoying both of those creative hobbies 🙂

  3. I think that creativity is an important part of an INFJ’s life because it fills the space that loneliness can often leave. I find a lot of excitement in writing, but I find the most peace in reading or playing the piano or ukulele and singing. I highly recommend the ukulele to anyone who wants to learn an instrument because it is a very simple instrument yet so beautiful and fun to play!
